CLASSIFIED MAP OF ILLECILLEWAET GLACIER
1 & 2) Shadows on snow, cast either by topography or by clouds, were partially responsible for errors in the firn class.

3) The ablation area/bare-ice class was easily mapped, except under heavy cloud shadow where the classification does not successfully discriminate ice from nunataks or medial moraines

 4) Ice marginal water bodies were mapped as ice in most trials, but correctly mapped in final

S and X)   An example of what is regarded as a successfully classified shadow area is marked ?S? while an erroneously committed area of topographic shadow without glacier is marked ?X?.
